Water Tanks

Water is essential, especially when camping. Carrying a jerrycan or other reservoir can take up a lot of space in the interior. That's why opting for an integrated interior water tank or an under-mounted tank for your camper or bus is an ideal solution.

Freshwater Tank for Camper and Caravan

The tanks in our assortment that can be used as freshwater tanks are made of food-grade plastic. These tanks often have various openings where a tank probe, submersible pump, or faucet can be easily installed. To keep the water in the tank in the best possible condition during storage, it should be kept as cool as possible and protected from light. Heat and light provide ideal conditions for algae and bacteria growth. Therefore, it's preferable to store clean water in a dark tank with minimal exposure to heat and light. When setting up the water system, use pipes that do not allow light to pass through.

Filling the Freshwater Tank

There are various ways to fill the freshwater tank. Most campers and caravans have a neat connection point where you can attach a hose or pour water from a jerrycan. If you are building your own camper, these connections are also available to create a convenient external filling point on the camper or caravan.

Monitoring Water Levels

Since water is vital, it's important to know if you have enough water or if you need to replenish the supply. Special tank probes are available to accurately measure the water level in the tank, and the readings can be displayed on a monitor.

Wastewater Tank for Camper and Caravan

A wastewater tank, also known as a gray water or black water tank, is used to store used and contaminated water. Dumping this water directly into the environment is harmful. It can cause odor issues and harm plants and animals due to chemicals present in substances like synthetic soaps. Many campsites and camper areas have designated locations where you can dispose of this wastewater responsibly.

Cleaning, Hygiene, and Maintenance of Water Tanks

It's advisable to clean the water tank regularly using a specialized tank cleaner to remove algae, scale, and bacteria. These can naturally accumulate in the tank and water system. Cleaning the system at least twice a year is recommended for normal camper usage, but if you use your camper frequently, more frequent cleaning may be necessary. Most water tanks have large inspection and cleaning openings, making it easy to thoroughly clean the interior. Additionally, make sure no stagnant water remains in the tanks or pipes when the camper, caravan, or boat is stored.

Hygiene considerations go beyond annual cleaning. It's not advisable to use the same hose used for chemical toilets or other purposes to fill the freshwater tank. Instead, use a clean water hose and fittings to ensure hygienic conditions while filling the tank. Even if a hose appears new and clean, you never know how others have used it or if they maintain proper hygiene standards. So, it's best to use your own hose, watering can, or jerrycan and personal fittings for clean drinking water.

Emptying the Wastewater Tank

The contaminated water needs to be regularly emptied. As mentioned earlier, this should be done at designated locations with proper drainage facilities. In most cases, you park the camper or caravan with the drainage outlet above a drain or gutter. When properly positioned, you can open the outlet to let the wastewater flow out. Before driving away, make sure to close the outlet to prevent any remnants from spreading around the neighborhood or campsite.

Fitting Water Tanks for Campervans and Campers

In addition to a wide range of universal water tanks, there are also tanks specifically designed to fit certain bus or camper models. These tanks are available for popular models such as Volkswagen T4, T5, T6, and Crafter, as well as Mercedes Sprinter, Fiat Ducato, Citroen Jumper, and Peugeot Boxer. These tanks are designed to fit in specific locations under the bus or camper, taking into account factors such as cross beams.
