What You Need to Know Before Buying an Awning Adapter

There are numerous awning adapters available because not every awning fits every type of vehicle. Most awning adapters are designed to seamlessly fit and be mounted on specific vehicles. Also, consider the design when choosing an adapter. There are awning adapters that only fit a vehicle with a short or long wheelbase or that only fit an H2, H3, or H4 model.

Attaching an Awning Adapter

An adapter kit comes with a manual that shows in detail how to place an awning adapter on the camper or caravan. This can vary by brand and by awning type. In addition, there is also a difference in the way a wall-mounted awning is attached and the way a roof-mounted awning is attached. Roughly, the mounting of the awning adapter follows these steps.

• Degrease the mounting surface on the roof or on the wall of the camper or caravan thoroughly.
• Mount the alignment clamps on the mounting points on the roof of the camper or caravan. Or ensure that the mounting points are made on the wall of the camper or caravan.
• Mark the location of the awning adapters on the roof or the wall of the vehicle. Check carefully whether the awning adapters can be mounted in a straight line. Pay attention to any irregularities.
• Place the sealing rubber for a waterproof seal between the awning and the roof.
• Apply a generous amount of construction adhesive (Sika 252) to the contact surfaces of the awning adapter.
• Place the adapter on the camper, caravan, or camper van and bolt it if necessary for the type of awning adapter. Check if the adapters are mounted in a straight line.
• Remove excess glue around the bonded surfaces.
• Let the glue dry, mount the awning, and secure it.
